About
The Smithtown Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is located at 410 East Main Street and serves as a point of entry for all lost, stray, and surrendered animals, specifically, for the residents of Smithtown. Any stray animal is held at the shelter for the minimum statutory holding period of three days while shelter staff investigate to find possible owners and reunite lost animals with their concerned families. During this time our staff provides care to help the animals be as comfortable as possible while they wait for their families to find them. If an owner cannot be located the animals are then evaluated and placed on the adoption floor so they can find a new home.
Looking to adopt? Our knowledgeable staff will help guide you during your search for a forever friend that's compatible with your family and lifestyle.
If you're interested in adopting a dog, our shelter boasts a
beautiful "Meet and Greet Room."
Here you can interact with the dog in a home-like setting.
Also, you can get to know our dogs in any of the four outside play areas where they're free to run around, play with toys and receive TLC.
Our dedicated exam room provides a quiet place for our animals to receive any needed daily medical care. Minor treatments and vaccinations are also performed in this room by visiting veterinarians.
Our shelter continues to get upgrades so our furry friends can have fun while waiting for their forever home. In 2018 a huge dog park with agility course was completed. This expansive area gives our large dogs lots of room to run around, expend energy, play fetch and engage in other species specific behavior.
